Johannesburg - South African stocks hit record highs for the third straight trading session on Tuesday, edging up as the weaker rand currency helped to lift battered stocks like Impala Platinum (Implats).
The benchmark Top 40 index hit a lifetime high of 38 964, while the broader All-Share traded as high as 43 345.
On Monday, a robust performance by gold and platinum counters lifted the JSE to a record high to close at 43 291 points.
Among the winners in early morning trade on Tuesday were AngloGold (up 2.22% at R151.26), Sibanye Gold (up 1.74% at R10.50) and Implats up 1.36% at R119.40).
